The third prez debate is about 10 minutes off. I'll be watching and monitoring Kevin Drum's Political Animal in hopes that he will liveblog it again. Also watch for the wacky gang at NRO's The Corner to see Jonah and the boys fret while K-Lo gets that "funny warm feeling" watching her hero preznit. Open a browser for Reason's Hit & Run blog, too. If you are online with broadband you may want to stream it from the NYT with live commentary from Katharine Seelye. It should turn up on this page. Ken Layne is liveblogging, too. Post-debate: Well, I think it's safe to say that the clear loser was Bob Schieffer and CBS. What an idiot this guy was! Tom Tomorrow sums it up pretty well with an observation about Bob's "safer world" question that seemed to have forgotten about the threat of global thermonuclear war (or "therma-nuk-u-ler" if you are Bush), not to mention that nasty Hitler guy and his World War II thingy. I'd truly say that in light of how bad the questions were, both guys did an admirable job of keeping it from turning into pure shit. I watched it on CSPAN 1 with a constant split-screen, and in that context I'd say Kerry won on presentation, even though Bush was far better than in his first two attempts. On points, I'd give a slight edge to Kerry, but only because Bush dodged or flat out lied on too many answers. [also, via Atrios, here's a clip of Bush saying what he claimed tonight he never said.] Daily Kos has links to snap polls that all give round 3 to Kerry. Given the polls, I'll be spending these last few weeks losing sleep over speculating on how Rove is planning on stealing this one. Looks like Pennsylvania is out, but Unka Karl has lots of tricks up his sleeve, and count me amongst those who would not be surprised to see Osama turn up sometime soon (and fuck you, Hitchens, while I'm on this topic). [via Welch] As I told Bad Dude Dad a couple days ago when we were talking about the election, I'd like to be voting for a candidate that I was really happy about, (as I did in '96, for the only time) but I'm more comfortable with Kerry than I would have thought during the primaries. Late Update: [via Kos] Keith Olbermann scores the debate as a judge at a boxing match would, with points added or subtracted on a round by round basis. His Total: The fight goes to Kerry with 12 rounds to five, four draws, and point totals of 18 to 3. Round by round I'd agree with his calls except for round 6 on Gay marriage. Keith missed the significance of Bush leaving open the question of homosexuality being a choice. "I don't know" sez the prez. Kerry answers definitively that it is not a "choice", and uses Cheney's gay daughter as an example. This round should have gone to Kerry. Monday, October 11, 2004

A very dear friend of mine has created a new line of Cool Baby Clothes called Angelic Genius. If you are looking for something outside the normal "cute" stuff that one finds in most clothing stores, go visit Marine Goss at AngelicGenius.com. Full disclosure: the beautiful little girl in her front page banner is my goddaughter, Lulu. ![]() Marine also has a great blog running with very cool links to a wide variety of unusual sites, and her choice of topics will appeal beyond the world of babies and fashion. Today I learned that LA now has a great service that I discovered in London last year called Home James, a service that sends a driver on a scooter to pick your drunk ass up at a bar and drive you home in your own car with the scooter in the trunk. My many drunk journalist friends would be well advised to file this one away...
